Fencing Derby: Garden, Commercial and Security Fencing
Fitted by our own employed team, never subcontractors. Trading since 2004.
Derwent Fencing has been fitting fencing in Derby and the surrounding area since 2004, working from our base in Hilton. We fit garden fences and gates, commercial, industrial and security fencing, palisade, agricultural fencing and decking, and we sell fencing supplies if you would rather fit it yourself. Every fence is put up by our own employed team, and if you are not happy with the work, we come back and put it right.
Fencing Derby: what we fit
- Garden fencing: closeboard and featheredge, overlap (larchlap) panels, horizontal slatted panels, picket and trellis, with gates to match. See residential fencing and fence panels.
- Commercial and security fencing for business premises. See commercial fencing.
- Industrial and palisade fencing for yards and sites. See industrial fencing and palisade fencing.
- Agricultural fencing for farms and land.
- Decking built to the shape and levels of your garden. See decking.
- Fencing supplies, supply-only: panels, posts, gravel boards, fixings and fasteners. See fencing supplies.
- Storm damage: fast callouts when a fence comes down.
How we set a fence
Our standard is concrete posts set 600mm into the ground, with gravel boards fitted where the ground needs them. BS 8417 sorts treated timber into use classes. Fence posts belong in Use Class 4, for timber in ground contact, while Use Class 3 is for outdoor timber kept out of the ground (Property Care Association).
We don’t fit UC3 posts. In our experience they rot within about five years.
What we won’t do
- Fit UC3-treated posts, even to bring a price down.
- Add gravel boards where they aren’t needed. They go in where the ground calls for them, not on every job by default.
- Travel far outside our area. We work within about 25 miles of Hilton. If you’re near the edge, call before booking a visit.
How a job runs
- Get in touch. Call 01283 733979 or use the contact form.
- Free site visit. We come out, measure up and give you a no-obligation quote.
- Fitting. Our own team fits your fence, usually within a day or two of your order confirmation. We will confirm this with you when you order.
- Afterwards. If you’re not happy with the finished work, call us and we’ll come back out to put it right.
What it costs
We don’t publish a price list, because every quote follows a visit to measure up. Our prices sit in the middle of the market.
That means we’re unlikely to be the lowest quote you get. Part of the reason is what goes in the ground: concrete posts set 600mm deep, never UC3 timber.
If you’re happy to fit it yourself, buying supplies from us and doing the labour is the cheaper route, and we’ll still help you choose what to buy.
What stands behind the work
- Trading since 2004.
- Our own employed fitters, never subcontractors.
- Commercial work for some of the largest supermarket chains.
- Guaranteed work. If you’re not happy, we come back and put it right.

Do you supply materials only, or fit them too?
Both. We fit fences, gates and decking with our own team, and we sell panels, posts, gravel boards, fixings and fasteners on a supply-only basis if you’d rather fit it yourself.

What posts do you use?
Concrete posts as standard, set 600mm into the ground, with gravel boards where the ground needs them. We don’t fit UC3-treated timber posts, because in our experience they rot within about five years.
